Diver Pre-reqs and other fine print:

·  All divers are required to have
Advanced Open Water certification and Enriched Air (Nitrox) certifications.  The Deep Diver Specialty certification is highly recommended.  Don’t have these certifications?  Then Southern Maryland Divers can work with you to earn these before the trip.

·  Divers should have recent experience in open-ocean diving conditions.  All divers should carry at least one audible (whistle etc.) and visual (SMB etc.) signal device.

·  For divers wishing to start the PADI
Tec 40, Tec 45 and Tec 50 technical certifications; these dives will make ideal training sites.  The water is typically around 72 degrees this time of year, which would be acceptable for a standard 3mm or 5mm wetsuit (choice of exposure protection is the sole responsibility of the diver, and should be based on individual tolerance for cold over repeated diving conditions).  Dry suit diving is also allowed, but please be sure you have your certification card and discuss dry suit use with your instructor for any Tec courses.

·  Wreck penetration will be expressly prohibited unless you have advanced wreck training or are conducting advanced wreck training with our staff.

·  Remember both trip insurance and diver medical insurance.  Southern Maryland Divers requires all Technical students to carry DAN (or equivalent) medical insurance

·  Remember cash for tips.  The staff of Pompano Dive Center will work hard for us, and we need to make sure we take care of them in return.  Typical tip for a 2-tank dive is $5 per tank, $10 if service is excellent.

·  All trips include boat ride, nitrox tanks and weights.   For those certified, Trimix is available with 25/25 at $0.45 cubic foot, 30/30 at $0.60 cubic foot, and 21/35 at $0.60 per cubic foot.  O2 is available at $0.40 per cubic foot.

We will spend 4 days of wreck diving off Pompano Beach Florida from the 1st to the 5th of February 2018.  We will be staying at the Sands Harbor Resort Pompano Beach; a sun and fun-filled hotel and marina located on the Intracoastal Waterway in Pompano Beach, Florida, just 1 block from the beach and sparkling, warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean.  Large rooms featuring 2 queen beds, flat panel TV with full cable, and conveniently located next to the Pompano dive center.

Dive Schedule:

Day 1 (February 1st, 2018) will be a morning shakeout dive on the Sea Emperor, a wreck sitting in 70 FSW with relief at 50 FSW.  The second dive of the morning will be the United Caribbean.  Caribbean is a steel cargo ship 147' long. Caribbean sits in 70 FSW with relief at 50 FSW.  In the afternoon, we will run the same profiles.

Day 2-3 (February 2nd and 3rd, 2018) morning will be double-dip to Tenneco Towers, which are a series of oil rig platforms sitting in 110 FSW. Three different sections lie within recreational limits and offer abundant fish life and gorgeous swim throughs.  Afternoon will be a double dip to the Lady Luck.  The Lady Luck is 324 ft. long, 50 ft wide tanker that rises to nearly to 60 from the surface at her mast. Artist Dennis McDonald has created a larger than life size casino on the deck with octopus dealers, slot machines and card sharks alike. You can swim down find an open seat at a table and gamble on a great photo opportunity. Be careful your dealer may be a little fishy! The ship's web of pipes and structures makes for a great fish haven and back drop. Stop by the bridge for a panoramic view of the ship.

Day 4 (February 4th, 2018) morning and afternoon will be guest’s choice.

**All morning and afternoon dive trips include 2 tanks of FREE Nitrox and hard weights, and will be 2-tank no decompression dives; unless you have the appropriate certifications for decompression / technical dives and have briefed your dive plan to the charter Captain.  In this case, a single decompression dive will be allowed.  All other gear required for the dive is the sole responsibility of the diver.

Note: While we will attempt to match this schedule exactly; weather and other factors out of the control of Pompano Dive Center / Southern Maryland Divers may force us to make minor changes.  If changes to the itinerary are made; wrecks of similar depth and skill factor will be substituted.**
